Medicine practice in America: Problems

Most of us have grown up believing in and having great faith in our doctors. The profession has long been revered and with I suppose good reason. After all to become a doctor one must possess intelligence,as well as endure years of training and supervision by those who have passed before them. For many years people never questioned their doctors, whatever the doctor said was law. somewhere along the line we realized we should question our doctors and actually ask for explanations as to why we should do what they told us.

I do not wish to say that all doctors are lacking, there are I am sure many good physicians in practice and on occasion I have met them. I understand that doctors are human and therefore subject to making mistakes even with the best of intentions. I also am quite aware that humans can suffer character disorders and sexually perversions without it affecting their intelligence. Which explains why we have discovered doctors who have done everything from scam insurance companies to molest their patients. We have also realized that there are doctors who abuse drugs and alcohol all to the detriment of their patients.

There are numerous problems with in the field of medical practice but many of the problems are hidden or ignored. In an age of political correctness I wish to spotlight a problem which many experience but no one seems to want to recognize. It is a rather blatant form of prejudice and it seems to run rampant among doctors and the medical profession.

Now if you were African American and you went to your doctor with signs and symptoms of sickle cell anemia, a disease that is painful and treatable, how would you feel if your doctor ran no tests, took no interest and simply told you "Well, your Black" as if that explained it all and therefore you needed no treatment or consideration.

There are of course many diseases and disorders that have been found to be more common to or exclusive to one race or another so I could give examples in several different races but in an effort to keep things simple I won't. Suppose as an African American you went to your doctor with the signs and symptoms of high blood pressure and their response was also "Well, your Black". Your lab tests come back and you have high cholesterol and instead of discussing diet changes, exercise or medication, your doctor met your concerns and questions with that all telling statement "Well, your Black".

Hopefully even if you are not of African American descent,
