How to subscribe to a podcast

You might have heard this word around the blogosphere, "Podcast". Podcasts are digital media files that are syndicated through an RSS feed. You might be wondering how we subscribe to these podcast RSS feeds? Well, they're several options, which all make it incredibly easy to subscribe to a podcast!

RSS feeds need some sort of client to receive the data of when new episodes are released, and to get all of the episodes information. The most popular podcast reader is iTunes (www.apple.com/itunes). iTunes is the most popular because of the Apple iPod which requires iTunes and has an incredible podcasting area. iTunes even includes the biggest podcast directory in their store. This all makes iTunes the most popular podcatcher in the world. Their are many other desktop applications that are great podcatchers, including RSSRadio (www.dorada.co.uk) and Juice (juicereceiver.sf.net). Their are also web options such as Google Reader (www.google.com/reader/), and NewsGator (www.newsgator.com) which offer a way to subscribe to regular RSS feeds from blogs and other syndicated content, along with podcast feeds. Another great way of subscribing to RSS feeds is through a home page service such as Netvibes (www.netvibes.com) or iGoogle (www.google.com/ig).

As you can see there are many ways of subscribing to podcasts, however I'd suggest either using an application like iTunes, or a home page service like Netvibes to receive and manage your podcast subscriptions.
