Poetry: Determination

As I rise from the bench,
my heart starts to pound.
II am up to bat,
the pitcher is on the mound

Bottom of the ninth
The score is tied.
I just hope he does not
pitch it inside.

I creep to the batters box,
frightened as a newborn.
If I fail to get a hit here,
It is me the team will scorn.

My entire body shakes,
as I take my position.
I am not used,
to playing in this condition.

Here comes the pitch,
"Yes!" right in my zone!
I take my cut at it,
and the pitcher lets out a groan.

The ball is soaring,
going, going, gone!
The game is won,
and my job is done.
