As long as women are being discriminated against or looked down upon as mere sex objects feminism will never be outdated. Today's definition of feminism may not mean the same thing that it did 20 years ago but there are still challenges that face women that need proponents to stand up against these injustices.
For example, women in the work place still do not make the same amount of money as men. This is highly unfair especially if it is the same job that is being preformed. Perhaps the most important thing that feminists are standing up for is the fact that women in the media are being objectified and degraded. Just look at Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Stupidity and sexual objects are being glorified over intelligence and responsibility. The new job of the feminists is to make sure that the generation that is coming up behind us is not too deeply damaged by this media portrayal. Let's not forget the overwhelming majority of anorexic models and actresses in the media. It's a surprise that women today still even eat! As a feminist I am a strong supporter of realistic actresses, models and second portions in buffet lines. It is not about being weak and starving it is about being healthy, no matter what size that is for a person's body type.
Today's feminist is both a proponent of equality and a voice against the degrading portrayal of women. Feminists today are role models as to what a strong confident women looks like. She may not look like she did during the beginning of the feminist movement but she still holds dear that same spirit and desire to be equal and to be heard.
