There are many types of timeshare promotions you may come across. Some call you at home and invite you to a local resort or company location. Another way is to call in on a radio promotion for a "free trip". But if you happen to be traveling already in a major destination you may find yourself approached on the street or at a booth to get a free gift for attending a "resort tour". Many will not specify that it is a timeshare presentation until you arrive at the location. The incentives for attending one of their tours or presentations are usually good. They range anywhere from hotel and airfare to cash or gift certificates.
The most popular is the free vacation offer. In order to receive these promotions you must attend one of their presentations. Plan on spending anywhere from ninety minutes up to four hours depending on the company. Even if you are given promises of a ninety minute presentation, be prepared to stay longer. You will not receive your promised gift until after given the presentation and tour of the resort or company. Expect high pressure, today only sales offers. If you are strong you will get out quicker, if you are of the weak you may be spending more time there. After the grueling sales tactics are complete you will be handed your voucher for your free vacation. You are to fill out the voucher, choose three different date options, and possibly a few different location options as well. You will then mail in the voucher and wait to hear when your vacation will be. Often all the dates you have chosen are booked. I have heard several complaints that there is practically no availability at those locations. Too many free vouchers are given out. If you are so lucky to receive the actual vacation expect to pay a booking fee no greater than $100. And once you arrive at your destination, don't be fouled, you are not staying at one of their timeshare resorts. You are actually staying at a hotel. Unfortunately it's not usually one of the nicer hotels in that location either. Upon checkout expect to pay for all taxes for the stay as well. So in essence it is not truly a free vacation. You have now spent a few hours of your time at the presentation, a booking fee and taxes. It is up to you to decide if it is worth it to you or not.
You may also find timeshare companies that will call you up and invite you to come stay and attend a timeshare tour/presentation. They will pay for you accommodations to stay and all you need
