Why doesn't God do something about the evil in the world? Those who believe in God know that God is Love as brought out at 1- John 4:8. With this being the case, does he cause the world to be full of war, hatred, and misery? As individuals we get sick, we suffer, we lose loved ones in death. Thus, many say, if God was so powerful and cared so much about us, would he not prevent such things from happening?
Religious teachers sometimes lead people to think God is hardhearted? You may ask, how? When a tragedy strikes, they may say that it is God's will. This in effect blames God for the evil things that happen. Take for example Hurricane Katrina. The whole city of New Orleans was devastated. Many people lost their personal belongings as well as their lives. Believers as well as non believers alike were affected. Yet, there were many religious teachers who stated that God was punishing that city for its sin. Was God really responsible for that tragedy? Let's examine the scriptures.
Would God use a flood to destroy just one small portion of this wicked world? Genesis 6:11 "neither shall there be any more a flood to destroy the earth." Would God Go back on that promise and destroy even a part of the earth with flood? What about the fact that not all who were affected by that devastation were evildoers? Genesis 18:25 gives the answer, "far from the true God to slay the righteous one along with the wicked..."
This reply, given by the righteous man Abraham was a result of God preparing to destroy the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. God did not destroy the righteous along with the wicked in that case. For, the righteous man Lot, and his two daughters were spared. Look at the New Orleans incident. Many evildoers just fled to other cities to continue practicing what they already had been doing. Contrast this with the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Archaeologists cannot even find exactly where those cities were located. All that is in that area is sulfer and salt. God brought complete ruination to those cities, never for them to be inhabited again.
With this in mind, What is the truth about God? What does the bible really teach?
James 1:13 "God CANNOT be tempted with evil..." So God is never the source of the evil you see in the world around you. Job 34:10-12 "far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity...surely God will not do wickedly."
Granted, he does allow bad things to happen. But there is a big difference
