Poetry: Communication

"she said"

"You got some blue eyes," she said,
with a little wonder showing in her own.

A sense of excitement tinged her voice,
permeated all of her, as though she had
found something new.

I thought of an unlikely place,
an unexpected thing and a gust
of good feelings.

An heirloom of a ring perhaps,
as lost as her grandma's mind.

And my darling's somber face,
sifting through that empty house,
through the drawers, the mildew smell
and plucking the artifact out from the dust.

In a distant room, around a corner,
in the dreary evening gloom
of an antique space
an old wooden clock slowly ticks,
adding to the silence, stretching
out the moments.

In another, someone's smiling -

Good Saint Anthony came around...

Sadly, this is where my bubble loses containment.

This is where dishonest sunlight and just the right angle
meet at just the right time.

Or so she tells me.
