DVD reviews: Lost, The Complete Third Series (2007)

Did you see the advert earlier in the year ' Don't let Lost be lost to you' or something like that? It referred to the fact that series three of Lost was not going to be on mainstream television. Series one and two had been on channel four and then on one of the Freeview Channels but, having got the viewer hooked, they were now leaving them high and dry.

For the uninitiated Lost is an American series. It began with an airplane crash which left some of the passengers stranded on a small Island in the middle of nowhere. The climate of this Island was seemingly tropical and they soon discovered that the Island was not quite what it seemed. I watched the first episode unsure what to expect and was quickly hooked. Each episode would reveal as many, if not more, new mysteries than it solved. There was a main cast of about 14 passengers with extras appearing on and off. Each week we would learn a little about how one or two of these passengers came to be on this flight and their life back home.

Recently I spotted series two and three in our local blockbusters for a weekly rental, each, of 7. Series two was separated into part one and part two and had to be rented separately. We watched part two to refresh our memory of Lost ,and make sure we had seen them all, and then set about renting series three. Mission impossible springs to mind. Our local Blockbusters only had 4 copies of series three and they were always out on hire. As they do not allow reservations these days we gave up and treat ourselves to Lost Series 3, as a Christmas present from us to us.

We bought the boxed set which is Series Three for just under 42 from Asda. With my husband's staff discount we actually paid just over 37 which sounds quite pricey, I know. However in Blockbusters it was nearly 45 and that seems to be the price in most stores. What you get for your money are 6 DVD'S, plus one with extras, all packaged in a nice green box and so this would make a good Christmas gift.
