There are many people out there who want to know the truth about passive income. For some, it seems like a confusing concept-the idea of getting money for nothing. That usually happens in cases where passive income is poorly defined-making it appear to be get-rich-quick and somewhat shady. Passive income is not money for nothing however. It is multiple payments over time for a single effort.

You can see examples of passive income in many arenas. Novelists only have to write a book once are paid each time a copy of their book is sold. The passive element is that the novelist is not required to be inside a bookstore for his or her book to sell. The same concept can apply to artists, musicians, and various entertainment fields where a product is sold outside the creator's physical presence. In investing, money earned elsewhere can be used to make more money-in large enough amounts, this can be significant income.

In business, passive income is the developed when the business owner realizes that he or she wants to be physically present at the business as little as possible. This can involve training employees or setting up an Internet site that operates 24-7. This still takes time and effort-most likely years-but is definitely well worth it.

When a person's passive income equals or exceeds his or her living expenses, this person has achieved financial freedom-income will still come in regardless if they are working or not. This is why so many people are pursuing passive income. It is a concept that is almost a requirement for retiring younger and with stability. With job instability and increasing expenses becoming a daily part of life, I believe that forms of passive income will become a normal part of how people make a living within the next few decades.
