Christmas 2007: Gift ideas for grandpa under $10

You thought you were done shopping when you suddenly remembered that you forgot to fit something in your budget for your grandpa? Uh oh. What can you get him that's under $10? If your mind is suddenly blank - don't worry. Here's a ten-point list to get you started:

1) Is grandpa a gardener?
Get him a new pair of gardening gloves, or maybe an indoor plant.

2) Is grandpa a reader?

Larger stores have discount racks of books that fall under $10. There are also used book stores both physically and on-line whose prices might allow you to splurge on more than one book for dear old granddad.

3)Is grandpa a puzzler?
Puzzles of all kinds can be found for under $10. Crossword puzzle, Search a Words ... picture puzzles and more.

4)Is grandpa a Mr. Fix It?
A new pair of pliers, screwdrivers, flashlight, levels and more can be found for under $10. Even if they already have one pair it's often nice to have a spare!

5)Is grandpa an artist?
Papers, new pens, charcoals, paints, canvases and more can be found at your local hobby store.
You can also find special kits of projects such as mosaics, stained glass, metalworking and other crafts that artist's would enjoy.

6)Is grandpa into trains or tractors?
You can often find replica mini trains and tractors under $10 bucks that will reflect their favorite model or year. Hobby stores, tractor supply stores and farm stores such as Rural King often have these items.

7)Is grandpa king of the remote?
Many shows from his childhood and young adult years are now archived on DVD. Check the DVD bargain bins to see if you can find any for under $10. Blockbuster and NetFlix are also known to sell previously watched DVDs for discount prices.

8)Is grandpa a fisherman?
Even your local Wal-mart is crawling with worms, hooks and special lures under $10 bucks.

9)Is grandpa a coffee or tea drinker?
Buy him a variety of creamers, teas, biscuits, biscottis or other drink accompaniment. Even discount stores such as Big Lots, Dollar General and Family Dollar often have coffee/tea gift packs for under $10.

10) Is grandpa in a nursing home?
Not every grandpa is still king in his own home - though he may rule the roost at the local nursing home still. If your grandpa is in a nursing home a picturesque wall-calender, a new lap blanket or even a new bed pillow might be a very comforting gift. Some on-line photo sources even offer discounts on applying photos onto fabric items that fall close to $10. A nice pillow showing all his grandkids might be the perfect gift for him this Christmas.

Make a short list of any hobbies or activities your particular grandpa loves and you're sure to come up with even better ideas that would be perfect as a gift to him from you this Christmas.
