Why we need breakfast

The primary reason breakfast is the most important meal of the day is physiological in nature. Sure we need to energy, but this could be said for any meal at any time.

When we go with out eating several hours (4-5) our energy supplies dwindle, and irritability increases. The time between dinner/last meal and arising creates an even greater pseudo-fasting state that naturally depletes the body of ready fuel, i.e. bloodstream glucose and liver glycogen. The absence of these primary resources causes the body to tap the secondary or reserve supply b.k.a stored fat, a function that the body finds physiologically undesirable. It is however, this continuous nocturnal cycle that generates an energy starved body every morning as the cells, tissues and organs figuratively cry out sustenance, thus making breakfast the single most important meal of the day.

This is also the very reason empty stomach AM cardio training is far superior to other fat burning times & states. Simply put, the pre-exhaustion of primary fuel reserves augments stored fat accessibility and mobilization. Some people erroneously assume they can eat just prior to working out without affecting this mechanism because even preliminary digestion takes a few hours. However, anything eaten prior to working out is still subject to quick bloodstream entry via other routes most notably, sublingual. This is the process by which nutrients pass through the semi-permeable underlining of the tongue. It is also the reason for the sudden euphoria experienced by the very hungry after only a few bites of food.
