The role of religion in foreign policy

Should Religion have a influence in foreign policy? If so to what extent should it play. the website http://www.adherents.com/Relig ions_By_Adherents.html states that 86 percent of planet believe in a God or gods. With the fact that religion shapes the way that we feel and our value system it would be naive to think that religion would not play a part.

Religion has caused many wars such as the crusades and Jihads. It has also brought about peace and humanity. In a changing world with globalization and a increasing population religions role in foreign policy will grow. Will we follow the Pope edits of course not. Will are women have to be dressed from head to toe as some Islamic countries no. But the values that our religion have instill in us will dictate foreign policy. Will we love our neighbor and work for peace on earth. Can we get past our differences and join forces to create a better world.

Religious principles are one way to achieve this. I am not for a one world religion or the thought that only one way is best. But if we could take all the good points from religion to establish a foreign policy based on helping people. Can we strive to be a people who love and not hate. Who give and not take. With freedom and hope for mankind. Probley not but its a good thought. Really religion plays a role in foreign policy because religion is a part of us.
