Daniel is derived from the Hebrew original; Daniyyel. The meaning of the name Daniel is "God is my Judge".



ORIGIN AND HISTORY:
Daniel first appears within the old testament of the bible. The Christian faith leads us to believe Daniel is a prophet due to his interpreted dreams and his in-depth visions. Throughout his lifetime Daniel received premonitions of both present and future events. Judaism on the other hand does not classify Daniel as a Prophet as he never spoke directly with god as did their other prophets; Jews also believed that prophets only spoke with their own generations not with those of the future. Daniel wrote his own book in the bible "The Book of Daniel. The Book of Daniel documents his frequent tests of religious loyalty. The book also documents the occurrence of Daniels Dreams and visions.



POPULARITY:
The name Daniel has remained a strong choice of boy name throughout history. There are 2 shrines dedicated to Daniel. One of the tombs is situated in Iran and is frequented by pilgrims of Muslims and Jews. The other shrine for Daniel is in the city of Tarsus located in Turkey. The shrine is located 12.5 meters underground.

In Catholic religion there is a Saint Daniel. Daniel was born in Mesopotamia. At aged 20 he became a monk. When Daniel was 42 he moved to Anaplus. During his early years in Anuplus he lived in the church of the archangel Michael. After 9 years Daniel is said to have been visited by Simeon the Stylite who insisted he must live out the remainder of his life as he previously had, as a Stylite. Daniel the Stylite did as was requested of him and spent the remaining 33 years of his life perched upon one of 3 pillars (this is how he got the name Stylite from the Greek word "stylos" meaning pillar). From Daniels Pillars he healed the sick, foretold premonitions and advised the rulers of the country. Saint Daniels feast day is celebrated in the 11th of December.
