The Bible is the work of God. In it, he tells us who he is and what he has planned from beginning to end. Not only that, the Bible reveals the secret things of God. No, I'm not going to lapse into that other book that millions are reading today. I write of the Bible.

King James did indeed offer his translation in the sixteen hundreds. Since then, several events have taken place: the dead sea scrolls were found in 1948 and new translations have come about using the latest documents. I have three translations of the Bible and they agree.

I can skip from one to another translation without losing the meaning or the context. They agree.

The Bible has stood for thousands of years. If you have a car and it stopped working, would you keep it? The same can be said of the Bible, if it didn't work, it wouldn't continue to be a best seller. People wouldn't willingly suffer beatings, jail and death if it was not reliable.

It stands because it is reliable.

Christianity has been sweeping China for the past decade. These Christians that umber in the millions, suffer for their faith. Their crime? They meet together to learn of the word of God. They're not blowing themselves up to get to heaven, they're reading the Bible!

Who would suffer beatings and humiliation for a book that was unreliable? Our sense of self preservation would lead us to renounce the Bible...unless we had a strength that was greater than our own. That strength is the word of God revealed in the Bible.

The Bible is still with us because the laws, principles and the hope contained therein, work for the good of those who believe. The words contain life and wisdom.

Dr. Henry Cloud, prolific author, leadership trainer, psychologist for more than twenty years, writer of the award winning book "Boundaries", has written a new book called "The Secret Things of God." In it he makes some wonderful observations about psychology and the Bible and how the Bible answers our human needs.

For instance, most of us have heard of co-dependency. What does the Bible say? It says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the well spring of life." Proverbs 4:23

Dr. Cloud goes on to say that every principle he uses in his psychological healing process is contained in the Bible. If you don't know what's in the Bible, and had no training in psychology, you wouldn't be able to connect the dots.

That is one isolated example. He cites many.

At the end of the day, we choose whom we serve and what we believe. The Bible is a book of wisdom and life to those who choose to read it and follow the wisdom. To others it may be folly, but it will stand after you and I are no longer on earth.
