THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY CRIME...
I really didn't know what to make of this film - I mean, at times, it seems as though this was simply a vehicle for Lindsay Lohan to use a trashy mouth and gyrate her body around a pole as a stripper; is this stuff catching in Hollywood? We had Britney Spears doing this in the latest music video she put out, "Gimme More"....
But I digress. We rented this last night, and, as I said, I simply didn't know what to think of it once the 104 minute running time was finished. It really boiled down to being one of those forgettable "thrillers" with some gore mixed in for good measure; something like "Saw" meets "Premonition." It seems Hollywood has been churning out such junk in copious amounts as of late - have you seen "Disturbia," "Perfect Stranger" or the aforementioned "Premonition?" The trailers for all these films painted a picture of movies absolutely loaded with suspense and nail-biting moments; the end results were complete definitions of the opposite. Rentals at best, I always say.
While the title of this film may indeed catch your eye, the plot gets so convoluted in certain places that by the end, you really don't care anymore. Like I said, it was a platform for Lohan to really exploit her bad girl image she has been displaying recently - the cover of the DVD box even justifies this a bit, with a split-image picture of her face with a sexy, upgraded version of herself gripping a stripper pole in a thong and heels in the middle. If you're already shaking your head, let me get to the plot before I lose you...
Lohan plays dual roles here - one as a rather frigid chick who won't even give it up to her boyfriend in school (we know her in this character as Aubrey) and the other as a down-on-her-luck pole dancer named Dakota. The beginning of the film follows this Aubrey character through her relationships with her friends and boyfriend, up until an unexplained moment where she is abducted by a serial killer, tied up and supposedly left to die....but she is found by another of her friends in a hole at the side of the road. The police and FBI are involved now, as her body is found in the condition another girl's was, with certain limbs removed. When she finally recovers in the hospital, Lohan claims she is not Aubrey, but another chick named Dakota - and everyone thinks she is delusional. She continues sticking to this story, acting like a totally different girl than Aubrey, who took piano lessons and "followed the rules" to some
