"I can't understand why they complain so much," Raven thought to herself. "I mean how hard can being human be. They should try being me for a while."
Raven, a six month old black kitten was laying on the couch watching her family go about their day. Stretching out to her full length before rising and going in search of Coco the big white cat who seemed to know everything.
She found her in her usual place laying in the middle of the boys bed just like she owned the world. Coco was 9 years old and had lived here since she was a kitten. She seemed to know more about the goings on in the house than the people did sometimes. Only problem was she really didn't like other cats.
"Excuse me Miss Coco," Raven asked quietly, "can i ask you something."
Coco slowly opened on blue eye looking at Raven quizzically. "Make it quick, you're interrupting my nap," she said in her abrupt way.
Raven sat down just out of paw reach, just in case, took a deep breath and asked, "Which do you think is better, being human or being a cat?"
"Well that's simple," Coco said looking into Raven's dark green eyes. "Being a cat of course. Now go away so I can sleep."
"But why?" Raven continued, "how can it be better if we can't do anything without them letting us?"
Coco raised her head looking Raven straight in the eye, "You can't be serious. How can you even ask such a ridiculous question?"
Raven tucked her head and said, "I don't know it doesn't seem silly to me. I just thought you could help me."
Raven turned and walked to the edge of the bed sorry she had even bothered to try. "Wait," she heard Coco say, "I forget you are still young. Sit and I will explaining it the best way I can so you will understand."
Raven walked back over and sat down in front of Coco as she sat up stretching. Still keeping herself at a safe distance she said, "OK, thank you."
"Being a cat is always best," Coco began, "in fact being a cat is the best thing in the world to be. If you do it right, it's not the humans that let us do things, it is us that has them do things for us."
Raven turned her head to the side, thinking. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"Well, think about it," Coco said. "When we want to eat who gets the food? Who decides when we get petted, or let out, or let completely alone? We do, not them. We spend all our time doing what we want. We eat when we are hungry, we play when we feel like it, and sleep when we want. There is no better life."
Raven sat their and thought for a moment. Looking at Coco with a twinkle in her eye she said, "You''re right, nothing could be better than being a cat."
As Coco laid back down to finish her nap, Raven hopped down from the bed going in search of someone to pet her since that was what she wanted.
