Poetry: Christmas trees

Go Look Beneath the Christmas Tree

When all the lights are turned down low
And night begins to fall,
We listen for the sound of Reindeer hooves
And strain to hear the call:

"Ho-ho-ho!", he bellows,
In his mighty elfin way.
Little children wait in awe;
'Twill soon be Christmas Day!

The jingling of the sleigh bells,
The creeping in the night,
Stashing all the presents
Without a soul in sight!

They wonder: "How does he make such magic?
How does he cause such joy...
Making merry memories
For every girl and boy?"

Absorbed in the glittering festivities,
We forget that Santa doesn't always come.
For some, there's simply no way
To provide this whimsical, holiday fun.

There are no jingling sleigh bells;
No stockings hung, to fill.
There is no food, no hearth, no home
To ward off winter's chill.

What fills these little children's minds,
When Christmas Day draws near?
Is it thee hope of Happy Times,
Or is it doubt and fear?

True Joy is in the giving;
Christmas Spirit is in the love we share.
The world would be a better place,
If only we would dare.

To each and everyone, I cry:
Take heart and find a way
To share your blessings with someone else.
Don't wait 'til Christmas Day.
