While the holiday season is a joyful time full of love, family and friends, it can also be a very hard time for those who are less fortunate. Therefore, it is important to remember those who may not be as fortunate as we are during this time.
There are many ways in which to reach out to those who need a little help in order to bring joy into their holiday season. This is a good time to allow the love of God to flow through us touching others who may not know him.
Food Baskets:
Creating a food basket for a family or families that you know may be hard strapped for cash during the holidays. This will help make sure they have the foods they need while possibly allowing them to spend money on their families needs without having to worry about food.
Helping with Utilities:
Many people have a hard time making ends meet during this time of year. Heating bills can drain family's finances quickly. If you know a family that is struggling, you can call the utility company and ask to pay an amount secretly toward their bills.
Donate Your Time, be a Volunteer:
Many times, we find ourselves strapped during the holidays and are not sure how we can manage let alone buy extra to give. At these times, we can donate our time. Shelters and food kitchens are in need of volunteers this time of year. The need is greater and those who generally do these services all year long have more family commitments during the holidays. The Salvation Army generally has much need of volunteers during this time.
Clothing, Food and Gifts:
This is a time that donations of clothing, food and gift items are greatly needed. If you know of a local family that needs help you can join with other friends or family and donate items for their family during this time. If you are unsure of who needs your help you can donate these items to local shelters, fire departments, City offices or the local Salvation Army. Generally, these places have a list of those who are in need and can make sure those people receive what they need.
Bring Joy to Someone who is Lonely:
If you know of someone who will be alone during the holiday season, invite them to join your family. Be sure if gifts are being exchanged that this person will also have a gift under the tree. Let them know they are not expected to bring anything or do anything other than come and enjoy the festivities.
If they enjoy being busy and doing things, you can invite them to join the family during candy making or holiday baking. This will give them the chance to enjoy the festivities and feel like a bigger part in the celebration. While also having the satisfaction of feeling needed. They may have some recipe's that will enhance your holiday celebrations.
