Everyone in the world knows of Myrtle Beach. This small area sees over 14 million travelers step through their town, and many of those travelers have their families in tow. Next to Disneyland and Disney World, Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular summer vacation destinations for families. The question then becomes....What is about Myrtle Beach that is so special?

Maybe the reason so many people love Myrtle Beach is because of the beaches. After all, this is where the town got its name. Here you'll find over sixty miles of crystal clear oceans, and pristine sandy beaches. It almost has the feel of a Hawaiian island, but much closer to home for most of us. Who wouldn't love the chance to dip their toes into those bright blue waters before enjoying a nice quiet picnic lunch right on the sand?

Of course there's far more to do around the ocean in Myrtle Beach than just swimming and picnicking. There's also scuba diving, parasailing, and great opportunities for fishing. The deep sea fishing off the coast of Myrtle Beach is simply out of this world. There are several charter tours in the area that provide private tours, or group tours for individuals looking to try their hand at deep sea fishing.

When it comes time to eat, head over to the area affectionately known as Restaurant Row to the locals. This area has more restaurants than you could ever imagine, with all cuisines represented. There are nationwide fast food chains, located right beside hometown favorites. And most of these restaurants are quite budget friendly.

Once you're ready for a little more activity, try out one of the more than 60 golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area. There are enough options that everyone can find a course perfect for their skill level and personal preference. Or if you plan on visiting Myrtle Beach during one of the warmer seasons, make sure to check out one of the local Pelicans games. The Pelicans are Myrtle Beach's own Triple A Farm baseball team. That doesn't even take into account the museums, outdoor attractions, theme parks, and the dozens of other activities that makes Myrtle Beach such a popular tourist destination.

The next time you plan on heading out for a family friendly vacation, think of paying a visit to Myrtle Beach.
