With nearly one semester of college ready to be marked onto the transcript, college freshmen have developed a better understanding of what they want and need at college. So when you wrap up presents for these young adults realize that they have been dropping hints for the entire last semester about what to buy them for Christmas.
CLOTHING
1) Socks. The hallways in the dorm aren't really all that clean and the college student really doesn't want to put shoes on to go to the bathroom or to stop by a friend's room. Socks really become grungy after a few weeks, so a few extra pairs of socks will definitely come in handy.
2) Boots, Hat, Mittens/Gloves. If the college student lives in a cold climate, he or she may not have really come dressed in the warmest clothes. An extra pair of gloves or a hat as well as some warm sturdy boots will be appreciated on those long treks across campus.
2)Lounge pants. When the day is done and the student is settling in for some studying or an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" a comfortable pair of lounge pants does the trick. Purchase a couple pairs of these for a warm fuzzy gift.
3) Hoodies. All the college students love them. Whether it is wearing them to class or lounging in the dorm, hooded sweatshirts will be a hit with the college student.
ENTERTAINMENT
1) DVD's. With the writer's strike affecting favorite TV shows, college students are looking toward videos more. Purchase boxed set of their favorite TV shows. Another favorite among college students is a DVD subscription to a online movie provider or a company such as NetFlix which will deliver DVD"S in the mail to the student.
2)Video Games. Video games are still hot with college students. Guitar Hero is popular and many dorms even have Guitar Hero nights-Bring your own Guitar. So purchase a favorite video game.
TECHNOLOGY
1)Accessories for the computer. Whether it is an external hard drive or a new digital camera, zoom in on the computer technology that the college student needs or wants the most.
2)Printer supplies. It may not seem very exciting but stick a couple printer cartridges in the Christmas stocking. It is something they really need and you'll have to buy it anyway.
GIFT CARDS/DEBIT CARDS/MONEY
1)College Debit cards. Times have changed. Instead of having to send a roll of quarters to do laundry, students can simply swipe the school debit card. Load this debit card up with some cash. This can be used at many places on campus as well as the laundry center.
2)Gift cards. Purchase gift cards to favorite restaurants or the closest large chain store. Many on campus food courts are operated on a smaller basis on the weekends and students like to be able to go have a pizza or burger with some friends. They enjoy not having to worry about having to pay for those excursions.
3) CASH. Of course, cold hard cash is the best gift of all, so think about creative ways to incorporate a little cash into the gifts as well. Stick a few bucks in the pocket of the coat or in the case of the DVD. Spending money is always a welcome surprise.
Selecting Christmas presents for a college freshman is actually a fun enterprise. If you give them a combination of what they want and need, you are sure to find something they will love for Christmas.
