Life's lessons from entrepreneurship

Early sunrise- it's good to get up early!

The keys to finding out whether or not you are an entrepreneur is to get up every morning before anyone else in your household. Why? Well entrepreneurs, like writers need quiet time and at least in my house, when no one else is up, it's quiet. Of course that means you also have to be quiet. You can't do the banging around the kitchen, like a wounded herd elephant, which is what I tend to do and if you're a woman, well, it's my experience they know how to be quiet in the morning, must be something innate to women. Men, well we certainly didn't inherit that genetic characteristic. When it's early in the morning, usually the only people that call are well, stupid. So you won't have the phone ringing to distract you. Another way to get quiet space, if you have a job and want to start a business, is to go to work earlier, just remember not to tell anyone at work that you're there earlier to start your own company! Everyone wants to be an entrepreneur but no one wants one working for them. This is the time when I find that my creative mind is awake, it helps to have coffee or tea, and I prefer a couple of cups of green tea before I dive into the hard core coffee. You can search the web, write on your business plan and generally feel like you maybe have accomplished something on your road to your own company. If you are a night owl, well then, my heart bleeds for you because everyone knows you are up and working and well if your motor is running on freezer temperature molasses in the morning, then the morning suggestion probably isn't a good one for you. But you should try to find some space and time where no one is looking over your shoulder. Being an entrepreneur has a lot to do with self reliance, determination and energy. If you're lacking one of those three, then stick to working for others, your life will be longer, maybe not happier but certainly healthier as you won't constantly have that angst of "would'a, should'a, could'a" as my South Boston Irish friends like to say.

Procrastinations are our middle names.

Many entrepreneurs when interviewed, admit that they are blatant procrastinators and often find themselves working on projects that don't have anything to do with the business or the business plan, most are easily side-tracked and one of the biggest complaints that I hear is you got too many irons in the fire'. Hey, well pal, damn site more irons anywhere than what you have working for the T'. Relax; procrastination
