YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME!
"Vancouver?" Kensy screamed incredulously. Her crystal blue eyes flew open as her mother explained that she would be flying to Vancouver to visit a friend.
"Mom, you can't go, you just can't go!" Her voice raised a decibel with each new word.
Her mother folded towels. Why the heck did people fold the bloody things anyway? They just ended up soggy and lifeless on a hook. Yanking a towel from the mountain of fabric, she offered to help. She was desperate she needed to win points. "Mom, you know how much I wanted to spend time with Steve this weekend. Dad won't let him come over," she said in frustration. "You know that."
Her mother's preoccupation with the stupid towels was driving her crazy. In an attempt to further plead her case, she flung the towel midair, and firmly placed her hands on slim hips. Her brows wrinkled like tiny earthworms stranded on the cement after a rain, as her expression changed from one of hope to utter despair.
"Mom, are you listening to me?" she demanded. "This is important! Without you here, reasoning with Dad, I'm doomed. You know he won't let Steve come over. He is soooo over protective. He harasses every guy I bring home with some stupid rugby ritual - holding him prisoner at the door while he reads him the riot act. It is so embarrassing Mom," she wailed. "I will be ancient, with crows' feet, puckered lips, and gray hair before he will give in and let me date. I bet he'd be delirious if I was still sitting on the rumpus room floor, food stains on my shirt, boogers hanging from my nose, and Barbies scattered around me. Can't he see I'm not a little girl anymore? What the heck does he think these bumps on my chest are? Play dough?" she groaned miserably.
Cupping Kensy's delicate chin in both hands her mother cooed, "Kensy, this isn't that big a deal. You'll be just fine. Why don't you try asking your spirit guides for a solution? That is their job you know," her mother urged. "All you have to do is ask, Kenz. Be clear on what you want and I promise you, it will be given." Her words trailing down the hall like a kitten chasing a ball of wool.
Storming from the den to her bedroom she grumbled, "Ump, I won't be fine. I won't ever be fine again." She flopped on her bed, fixing her sad eyes on an ugly black mark on the ceiling. Her brother's stupid rugby ball had been the culprit of that mess. That pissed her off even more. He wasn't even supposed to be in her room - EVER.
"It looks like a spider's web," she muttered. "My
