I was outside yesterday enjoying the unusually odd warm weather for the first week in October, and a neighbor of mine, in his 50s or 60s drove by. I've never really talked with him. I'm just at my house and he's at his. So he drives by and with both hands on the wheel, he raises a finger at me (his pointer finger you dummies) assumingly to wave hello. I kinda give him an awkward wave and a half smile and just continue with my ongoing activities when I begin to wonder was it a attempt at a wave hello, or was he pointing at god to strike me down right then and there. I didn't get struck down, but God doesn't strike people down on command; trust me, I've tried. But I've never even talked to the guy, what did I deserve to get wave or a death sentence. Did I piss him off with out knowing it? (I do that to people alot....) Maybe he was just being a friendly neighbor because no one I know, seems to like him or his family very much.
Then I wonder, if he is just being friendly neighbor, how come I don't get a full hand wave hello. To get just a finger, thats pretty insulting. I thought for a moment, maybe he is just being a safe driver. They always teach drivers to keep your hands at the 10-2 position, and if he raises a hand, he could go steering out of control and hurt or kill somebody! But my neighborhood isn't very crowded with out much traffic. You can easily play in the street only avoiding a few cars. So to only get a finger, thats like saying 'Yeah, I know you, but you only get a finger hello. Maybe with time and trust you will get that full hand.'
At domino's, when we are on the road, we are told that if someone is cursing at us or honking, we are supposed to wave and smile because that will piss them off even more. Next time I see that guy, I'm going to give a him a big smile and a huge wave with both hands.........
