Reflections: Growing old

I once ran these streets with laughter and joy. These days I have trouble making it down my porch. To think that so long ago I was jiving in the bars with all the sailors dressed in their white uniforms. We would drink in their cars and listen to Elvis sing about love. I don't think I could even get on the dance floor these days. Heaven forbid if any sailor wants to take a look at these old winkles.

I used to run jugs of wine from our basement to the neighbors house during the drought. My father taught me everything I needed to know about making the best wine. I still know how to do it. I just don't think I have the strength these days.

I could tell you all about Woodstock and every single performance. I stood right in front and watched as Jimi Hendrix wailed on his guitar. The very sound shook through my entire body. I could drop hits of acid and smoke you under the table. These days I wouldn't dare consume any of that junk. Who knows? The pot may be good for these brittle bones.

I grow older as the years pass by and I can't help but think if I made the most out of my life. I did get married and I had nine children. They had children of their own and I am almost done. The next stop is the Nursing Home where the elderly are forgotten. It is all down hill from there. I will be dead in a year.

I had a good life, I had a pleasant life. I lived through a Depression and I watched as women received rights. I watched technology grow and I experienced the planet change. I leave this world to my family who is growing themselves. They will have their own stories to tell when they are as old as me. I only hope they live to be as old as me. That is the circle of life after all. I am proud to do my part.
