Jimmie Johnson, your two time Nextel Cup Champion, driver of the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet, drives for Hendrick Motorsports and now a teammate to everyones' favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Before joining NASCAR, Jimmie raced motorcycles and off road racing leagues. He won the 1996 and 1997 championship for what is now a defunct off-road series. In 1998, Johnson was rookie of the year for the ASA, and also drove in 3 events in the Busch Series. In 2000, Johnson was Rookie of the Year in the Busch Series and finished 10th in standings driving for Herzog Motorsports. His sponsor was Alltel, who left him for Penkse, which prompted Jimmie to ask advice from Jeff Gordon. He was hired by Hendrick and started racing in the Winston Cup series in 2002, with Lowe's as his sponsor. As a rookie, he won both races at Dover and he led the points standings, and since is the only driver to stay in the top 5 in his first 5 full seasons. He won the Nextel Cup in 2006 and in 2007. Johnson has also participated in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, two Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series races this last season, and the Porsche Brumos 250 at Daytona. He is married to Chandra, has the Jimmie Johnson Foundation that helps children, and was San Diego's Pro-Athlete of the Year by the San Diego Hall of Champions on January 31, 2007, since Johnson is from California.
