The debate on global warming and proffered solutions to control the situation seems to be meeting conflicting views from the developed world, more so when measures under scrutiny would seem to affect their income capacity and threatening their drive in international competitions.
Scientifically the issue of global warming is a threat to world eco-system and human survival and thus if efforts are not put in place to check the exigency of present developmental demands that have being the recipe for man-made pollution, the world would be doom.
Economically, the consequence of global warming is being felt by nations as its impact continue to take toll, especially the developing world where famine, floods and desertification are hindering their economic potentials. This has led to poverty and starvation in many regions and subsequently more pressure on the International community and the humanitarian organizations that had to step up measures to protect or save the lives of millions of people in need of the food that has been denied them by global warming. Therefore to one's view, global warming would have been an opportunity had the developed nations acted in unison and ensure those protocols on Global warming are implemented as they would provide more prospect for innovations and new technological approach for the benefit of humanity.
Unfortunately, world leading nations seems to drag their feet on the issue, and Africa still struggling with her warring nightmare with the continue menace of HIV/AIDS will have nothing to offer but patiently wait and see what the big nations will do.
It is however true, as others argue that a radical approach in the fight against global warming would drastically affect international businesses, mostly conglomerate industries that greatly relied on industrialization to survive. A cut in their use of fusel fuel, which among many others is causing the Green House Effect, would reduce their energy need and to some extent a drop in their production and subsequently a fall in employment opportunities for their citizens. A reason I presume, influence developed nations in their decision making.
But not withstanding this, the safety and protection of the world for future generations must be of paramount importance to world leaders and addressing the issue now, would lead to the creation of new ideas and techniques that may avert the dependency of the industrial world on fusel fuel to more safe energy sources.
In Africa, many countries have been hit by natural causes and their economies not able to withstand the financial damage faced potential political instability. Some countries in West Africa have started experiencing desertification as lands that were once potential agricultural areas are becoming dry due to poor rainfall.
In Sierra Leone the threat of global warming is taking effect on the eco-system. Many species of plants and animals are becoming endangered as they struggled to survive in a changing environment.
Many animals had to emigrate from their natural habitats to favourable grounds and valuable plants are disappearing. This is a potential threat to the production of medical materials needed for the cures of fatal ailments. Thousands of people in Sierra Leone like in many other African countries can not afford the cost of modern medicine and greatly relies on herbal medicines and a change in eco-system would deprive these people of the cultural plants that they've known and which have served their ancestors for centuries.
It is horrible and nightmarish at the thought of waking one morning and one to see his/her village walloped by flooding.
To conclude my argument, global warming is a threat to the world and solutions should be made now!
