as well as bumps, restricted breathing and a whole host of other reactions.
If you have suffered some sort of impact to the tongue, or have a cut on the surface, then you will often encounter small irregular white bumps forming. These are usually just to cover the wound until it has healed and are harmless. They are often formed when you cut your tongue with a sharp piece of food or bite your tongue hard by accident, and break the skin. They can also be signs of an ulcer forming, particularly on the underside of the tongue, but this will become apparent fairly quickly and fade after a couple of days usually.
If the bumps are hard or very painful, or producing any discharge then you should always go to see your doctor as soon as you can, because they could be cancer if hard and singular, or a more serious viral infection if they are painful or discharging that might require medicine to help them heal fully. The other course of action will be that the doctor will freeze and remove the bump if it is a wart or other similar infection, rather then prescribing medicine.
In general then most times bumps on the tongue aren't anything to worry about and should clear right up after a few days or a partially changed dietary or oral health care routine. If in doubt it is always better to seek medical diagnosis to be sure, especially if the bumps are hard and don't fade away after a week or so.
