Of course equality is something that we all strive for in our lives and one we subconsciously desire. Whether its on a racial, ethnic, or gender issue, treating others how we feel we should be treated, is a concept we need to truly put into action. Being a female, I feel as though there are "gender roles" we have no control over being born with, such as bearing children, or fulfilling the role as the family "protector." However, I accept these positions, but don't feel as though they should effect the amount of equality we are allotted in our society. A female who is just as educated, if not more, than a man, should be given what she deserves; equal pay. Some have claimed that this equality isn't something that women honestly desire, but I beg to differ on that subject. Just because women act "inferior" to men when it comes to physical strength, or they prefer men who are chivalrous and courteous, doesn't mean that they don't feel they should be respected on the same level as a man is. We often confuse our individual perceptions of "gender roles" and what we believe to be our "gender rights." Women aren't abandoning their roles as females altogether, but simply asking for just treatment to be given to them as well. There are no situation when a man feels respected when his physical features are compared to other males, so then why do we feel that it is fair to treat a women differently because she "lacks" those male components.
