Wow! The Further Adventures of Jinx and Philo; A Christmas Story

Jinx was glad to be back on the farm in Kansas, after his adventures to space and then through time. Life was beginning to settle back into a normal rhythm, and Jinx's dreams of adventure were not as strong as they had been when before he had any adventures.

"Philo, want to go for a walk along the creek?" Jinx asked his big, fluffy dog.

"Sure, sounds fun," Philo said, by wagging his tail and spinning in circles. "Let's go, I missed our walks along our creek." Since Philo had been able to talk, while they were near the star, Alpha Centauri, Jinx was pretty sure he knew what Philo was "saying," and positive that Philo knew what Jinx was saying.

Philo bounded over the fence and ran toward the creek, as Jinx stopped to open the gate, leading from the house and the barn where his father had built the starship. "Wait for me," Jinx called to Philo. Philo stopped and looked back, saying, "Come on, hurry. There are rabbits and squirrels to chase."

"I'm coming," Jinx called and ran to catch up with Philo. When he was near his dog, they both ran to the creek bottom and didn't slow down until Jinx was out of breath. He paused and recognized this place. "Remember when I sprained my ankle here, before we went into space?" he asked Philo.

"Uh, huh, I remember. There was lightning and we were both afraid," Philo said, panting with his tongue hanging out.

"We are both out of shape, probably from not having any gravity for so long," Jinx said.

"Yeah, that's probably it," Philo said, wagging his tail.

Jinx pulled out his peashooter, his father had made for him, and said, "Let's go find a rabbit." Jinx had never really hit a rabbit. He just liked to shoot at the moving target, knowing that the rabbit was safe. He saw a pebble nearby, just the right size to shoot at rabbits, and loaded his weapon. Philo was again ahead of Jinx, who called, "Wait," and ran further along the creek.

It was late October, and the leaves were turning red and orange. The dry crackle of the leaves began to rustle in the wind, as a cloud seemed to form, quite quickly, even for Kansas, and then it began to snow.

Philo looked at Jinx, who shrugged his shoulders, meaning, "I don't know what is happening, but we better get home, now." Just as he was about to run for home, a rabbit jumped up from a bush right in front of Jinx. It startled Jinx so, he didn't even have time
