We thought it would be the rise of gas, milk, and cigarettes that would slow down the shopping this year. To our surprise, recall after recall of toys and products for children!
Parents are no longer budgeting what to buy for their children because there is not much left to choose from. Many will not buy today, for fear of tomorrows addition to the recall list.
There are those who bravely purchase items in hopes. It is because of these individuals, that some shops are able to barely slide by in sales.
It is not just toys! Recalls on cribs, bibs, bottles, and more! People are unsure of what they can safely buy even a newborn for Christmas. Many children are wanting items that have been recalled. We calmly explain that some toys have become unsafe and assure our child Santa will find something on their list.
Stores are now advertising game consoles, HD televisions, and clothing just to keep numbers up in sales. Unfortunately, not all parents can afford and HD television for their two year old. They are not only planning to buy socks and sweaters for their child either.
Parents are searching everywhere for items made somewhere else. They are hoping these items are not secretly made in China. There is even doubt in their minds of toys displayed "Made in Mexico" or "Made in America".
I would definitely say recalls have impacted this Christmas season! These recalls have made many people afraid to buy toys and have doubts on future products from the toy companies in question.
If you are looking for a toy, check the recall lists online. If there is a 1-800 number on a toy you are interested in, call before buying. Do some research before you shop.
I can only hope that soon this issue will be resolved. If it is not, 2008 may not have anything to offer in the toy department.
