of choosing scents for her fragrances unlike many other stars who only don their signatures to the perfume.
Former pop princess Britney Spears, decided to take lead from J. Lo and. With over 83 million records sold worldwide the teenage icon knew she had the upper hand in diversification. In 2004 Britney spears teamed up with Elizabeth Arden and endorsed her first perfume "Curious". The perfume, marketed towards her vast fan base at the time netted over one million dollars in its first year. Needless to say with such an over night success Britney and Elizabeth Arden remained in cahoots together and over the past 3 years have released fragrances, "Fantasy", "curious in control", and "Midnight fantasy". Britney's latest signature perfume "Believe" was released in September of 2007. Although Britney has been the highlight of controversial media attention for the past number of months, the bad publicity has not affected her perfume sales. Sales remain strong for the blonde mum of two I suppose it is a situation of, "oops I did it again!"
In 2000 Naomi Campbell hit the perfume market with her first fragrance "Naomi Campbell". With the easy recognizable fragrance name it attracted all those who wished to smell as beautiful as she looked. Naomi continues to use her stunning beauty to allure scent seekers and to date has released 7 scents "Naomagic", "Cat deluxe", Mystery"", "Sunset", "Paradise passion", and "Cat deluxe at night". Another celebrity supermodel who has used beauty to sell us a scent is Kate Moss. The British glamour girl released her first fragrance in August of this year which rocketed straight to the top of the celebrity perfume list. I have a feeling we have only seen the tip of Kate's scent production.
Celebrities such as actors, musicians and models are not the people to be cashing in on this little goldmine. Recently popular socialites such as Paris Hilton have also found a passion for perfume. Paris Hilton renowned for being the wild party child has become a favorite "it girl" amongst young teenagers. With her unique sense of style, stunning looks and family status, young girls from around the world strive to be her. In 2004 Paris decided to commit to her position as a celebrity with public power and created her first perfume "Paris". In a cute pink bottle adorned with a glass image of her Paris gave the public what they desired, the ability to smell like a star. Paris did not remain selfish in her creation and also created a matching masculine fragrance also named "Paris". She proceeded to introduce new perfumes to the market such as "Just me" and "Heiress". In October 2007 Paris released her fourth fragrance "Can Can". Love her or hate her, the simple fact remains Paris Hiltons name sells.
As women, we are aware of the power of a scent. Men have now also clicked on to this trend. P. Diddy launched the first males scent onto the market and celebrities such as Usher and David Beckham have been hot on his heels since.
Whether it's the beauty, fame, feminine grace, or macho strength you crave and desire, these celebrity scents are our attempt to gain it. With these sweet celebrities dominating 2.9 billion of the market and figures forecast to increase for 2008 it is safe to say, "Our sweet smelling celebs are set to stay".
