Writing a concise biography for an entertainer can be done with a few ideas in mind.
First, focus on where the talent would like to go. Do they want to garner more acting jobs? Are they interested in finding an agent? Is this for a press kit or website?
Next, take their most relevant and recognizable works and focus on those. For example, have they been in a well-known production? Have they won any awards or contests?
Also, be succinct. Get to the point! Make your case in as few words as possible.
Most importantly - be honest! Embellishing the text with descriptive adjectives is fine but making up accomplishments and work history is not! The entertainment industry has a way of identifying liars and word spreads quickly!
Below is a sample for reference - this is all in under 250 words:
Born and raised in California's Napa Valley, Janice Smith started in local pageants at the young age of four. Poise, discipline, and a determined work ethic allowed her to continue her path into modeling as a teen for several local businesses' print and commercial campaigns. After being the lead in over a dozen high school theatre productions she knew that acting was her true calling. Receiving the award for most outstanding actor at her magnet program, she has taken her craft seriously and devoted her life to acting. At 5'10" with delicate features, Janice has been in over fifty commercials in the past three years. Most recognizably was her recent involvement in a national Verizon campaign and as the romantic lead in a popular independent film.
In addition to her training as a young girl, Janice has completed several improv classes with the famous Groundling's school in Hollywood. In her determination to learn about all aspects of entertainment, she has also completed writing courses from the Acme Theatre group and performed in several of their weekend performances over the last year.
This determined professional is always reliable and has never canceled a commitment once she has signed on. Her reputation in the business is impeccable and a production can feel confident she will deliver a quality product. Janice enjoys the luxury of being a casting director favorite. Her outside hobbies include running, tennis, and writing short stories.
