Celebrity scents: Perfumes made popular by sweet-smelling stars

Women and perfume go together like cake and ice cream at birthday parties. They are certainly the main drivers of the cosmetics and beauty industry, but celebrity men endorse fragrances too. According to some stories, Pope Pie IX had his own fragrance, wore it regularly, and had the recipe for the scent.

Who knew the Pope wore perfume? Pie IX has a fragrance named in his honor made from the recipe that's rumored to come from an old family recipe from the early 1900s. Whether the story is true or not is irrelevant since it provides novelty and adds an air of mystery to the fragrance.

An abundance of celebrity perfumes and fragrances are available on the market making competition fierce. Does a celebrity name add elegance or value to the scent? The added value to is in the name. Loyal fans are the best bet for sales receipts in the war of fragrances.

Celebrity endorsements have added much needed sales. Jennifer Lopez is generally credited with revitalizing the perfume industry with her perfumes. They helped to bolster sales in a market that was flat during the late 1990s and early 2000 years.

The coming year is expected to be a very good sales year for perfumes. Who has the niche? It's difficult to say. Industry experts and their statistics tell us that teenagers are likely buyers and Hispanics are the growing market, but don't discount workingwomen.



CELEBRITY FRAGRANCES

Women

Jennifer Lopez: Actress and singer got her start as a Fly Girl in "In Living Color". Perfumes include Still, Glow, Glow after Dark, Live and Live Luxe. JLo is a leader in celebrity fragrances. Fragrances created by Coty Lancaster.

Britney Spears: Singer, recently best known for media coverage. Her "Curious" perfume was a best seller in the 2004 holiday season. Believe and Fantasy are other perfumes she endorses for Elizabeth Arden.

Paris Hilton: Heiress to the Hilton Hotel empire. Perfumes: Paris Hilton, Heiress, and Just Me, Paris Hilton by Paris Hilton. (Parlux fragrances) These perfumes are relatively inexpensive and received good ratings by consumers. Hilton makes fragrance for men and women.

Celine Dion: Singer, Las Vegas performer. Perfumes include Enchanting, Belong, Always Belong, Celine Dion Notes, and Celine Dion Perfume. Those in the know say that Dion gets very involved in the perfumes and the packaging for her signature products.



Sarah Jessica Parker: Veteran of television, movies and theater is best known for her role in "Sex and the City." Lovely and Covet are the perfumes that bear
