Is anything the way it used to be? Like everything else in the world, music, in any category, has changed with the times. I am a music lover. I allow the beat to take over me, the words to guide me out of my world and slide me right into that of the artist. As I listen to R&B from 80's-90's as opposed to what is at the radio's exposure now, it has more than changed. It has adopted new sounds, steered away from subtle instruments and acquired new experiences to relay.
When analyzing music, one must take the influence into consideration. I read and listen to these interviews with all these artists, some who have been in the industry for years. And they all say the same thing; they wanted to be an artist because they love music and have something to say. A song writer, like an writer, has the ability to write through experience and the talent to write from creativity. The older works of R&B shows more creativity than experience. You receive more of the rhythm than the blues. If you listen to the lyrics of today's music, it is, in my opinion, more blues than rhythm. For the most part, all of today music gives you the same type of emotions. You either relate to their yearning for true love, cry with their pain of getting hurt or let their anger amp your own. Where did the genuine talent go?
Although there are more than enough artist that I appreciate their music. the concept from then to now has changed dramatically. In my eyes, music has lost it's soul. It is much easier to pinpoint now an artist attempt to bring this aspect back to the music industry, yet just as blatant when it gets shut down by society.
