South Carolina: Hilton Head in the spring

Crisp air.
Blue skies.
An unbelievable amount of green.

This is spring on Hilton Head Island!

Hilton Head is a wonderful place to take a break for spring. For many years, I've traveled to Hilton Head three times a year to visit my grandfather. Although summer seems like a more appropriate time to travel to an island surrounded by the fresh waters of the Atlantic Ocean, nothing beats spring time spent on The Island!

The gorgeous weather makes all things possible on Hilton Head in the spring. The first thing every traveler should do is go for a bicycle ride around the island. There are miles of paths all over the island, as well as twelve miles of beach! Several companies on the island rent bikes at reasonable prices, so if you don't want to bring your own bike - or, like me, if you haven't been on a bike since you were twelve - these pros are on hand to help.

Bike riding isn't the only enjoyable activity on the island during spring. Hilton Head is famous for its golf courses. With a wide variety of public golf courses to chose from, there is something for everyone. Even novice golfers will be able to participate; golf lessons are available at the Golf Academy of Hilton Head - where you can learn from pros in the PGA. And if golf isn't your game, don't forget the island is also host to over one hundred tennis courts.

Spring isn't just about outdoors and sports on Hilton Head. Hilton Head is a shopper's dream, and spring is the perfect time to find sales! In addition to the many high end boutiques you might find at Pineland station, the mall at Shelter Cove provides a great mix of specialty shops with some of your favorites. No trip to the island is complete without a stopping by Coligny Plaza, with everything from a grocery store, movie theater, Internet cafe, and over sixty additional shops and restaurants. On the way home, don't forget to plan time to stop at the Tanger Outlets, where you can find beautiful items at for a beautiful price!

This March, April or May, spring into action and begin planning your vacation to Hilton Head Island. With gorgeous weather and a laundry list of activities for travelers of all ages, HHI is the definite cure for spring fever. Hope to see you there!
