Poetry: Whole

The whole is quite unlike the sum...
of all its many parts,
For if I hope a cake will come...
by heating from the start...
The eggs & flour, sugar, rum,...
and miss the mixing art,
I'll have a gooey mess that's dumb,
and not my tasty tart!

I learned a couple stories young...
that truly were not based,
In fact nor logic, yet were FUN...
since being in good taste!

The first conundrum was a twist,
upon the word we speak,
To figure out the story's gist,
illogic we must seek!

"How would you leave a room devoid...
of windows and a door,
If all resources for employ...
...one saw and table for...
Creating a solution freed
from sane-ness,...in a word?"

"Quite simple! You must saw in two,
the table with the saw,
Two halves...a whole will give to you,
then crawl out through the hole you see
in all its silly flaw!"

"The other is most similar,
for ev'ry unhinged mind,
'How would you mend a hole-y shirt
with scissors left to bind?'"

"Quite simple really,...I would trim,
the hole as it were whole,
Then with a chance that's really slim,
the shirt would be made whole!"
