OK Seriously, does anyone not agree with this statement? I have been working since I was fifteen, and one thing I learned really quick was that you have to suck up to your boss. If you don't, you don't get the perks. You want to use some vacation around Christmas, your boss better like you, or else, you'll be on the clock.

This is not to say that hard work doesn't account for something. I mean hard work is a way of kissing up to the boss. Let's take a closer look at this statement. Your boss is most likely under pressure to get thing A finished right? Which means you are under pressure from him to finish thing A. He wants you to do your job, and not just do it, but do it well. Which means you have to work hard right? So in a way, just putting in the time and effort at your job means you are kissing up to your boss.

Think about it this way. There are generally two ways you can get on your boss' radar: You do a good job. You work hard. You complement him on his tie or her haircut every once in a while, and generally have a good personality. Or you perform poorly, or just at par levels. You come in to the office with a lousy attitude, and couldn't care less about what you or your boss looks like. If you are the latter employee, yeah, you are on the bosses radar, but not in a good way.

If you want to get ahead at your job, and you want to get the special treatment, then you better learn how to be liked by boss.
