Chess is a multi faceted game. To maximize the impact of your moves requires they fulfill these requirements.
1) control/dominate squares/space.
2)Allows pieces to support others while threatening your opponent
3)On the attack a piece must be covered by superior support or be unopposed.
4)Unless intentionally sacrificing never put a piece where it can be threatened/attacked by a lower value piece.
The squares designate white bishop 4-5, black bishop 4-5, and king/queen 4-5 are the cross roads of the board. By controlling this block it is possible to attack anywhere on the board while restricting your opponents ability to move unopposed. Play/occupy the whole board squeeze your opponent into a corner and destroy his pieces as they are forced to move unsupported or under supported into your field of control. The player who controls the most squares with an interlocking defense/mutual support network has the best chance of winning
While working to dominate the board it is important to observe and exploit any mistakes your opponent makes. The three things to watch for are opportunities for a fast check mate, to destroy an isolated group of pieces or push a pawn to the 8th rank and create another queen.
