Amateur writers: Making the most out of writing workshops

Everyone likes to think that the writing that they have just completed is a work of art, a masterpiece. But for many it is not. How would you know? One of the answers is a writing workshop. It is easy to get criticism on your writing. For everyone that likes it, there will be just as many who will be critical. But there is a world of difference between criticism and constructive criticism. This is where being involved with a writing workshop comes into its own. Here you will find like minded people who are willing and eager to help others to achieve their writing dreams.

Writing workshops provide a number of varying opportunities for the amateur writer apart from those already mentioned. The can provide knowledge of the craft, offering help and assistance to enable you to improve your craft. This will either come from other amateur writers such as yourself or, from time to time, successful writers will also be available to offer first hand experience of how to make your writing career successful.

Writing workshops will assist you with plot and character development, ensuring that both the setting and the people involved in your plot, ensuring that you end up with a well rounded and more believable story line.

They are also a breeding ground for ideas, both for developing a story and for how to structure and develop your book. It is a two way street. If you put the effort into a writing workshop and participate fully, you will learn an incredible amount, and contribute in return.
