an issue that existed prior to the Iraq war. Instead of continuing a debate on which is a noble cause the focus needs to shift towards what lessons from Iraq can be applied to Sudan. One is how Sunni were re-integrated back into the new government. While this may not be as clean and easy a process for Sudan, there are particular groups that should be identified that can and would work together to bring about a government consisting of both Muslim and Christian. It is then that only this group will be able to rid the country of rebel groups both in the North and the South. The only way to do this is through a strong military intervention where security can be maintained to bring those groups which have been identified as ones that can work together to come to an agreement on the future of Sudan.
As for defining which is a more noble cause it is hard to define by comparing one conflict over another. A noble cause is where one seeks to create a just outcome between two opposing sides. In Iraq we are beginning to see a more unified Shia and Sunni nation forming. Sudan there is still more work to do and they have far fewer resources than what are now available in Iraq, even prior to the US invasion. Sudan took back seat to intervention as compared to Iraq was because of the resulting consequences which could have occurred if action was not taken against Iraq first. Sudan is a more local issue than when compared to Iraq which could have resulted in larger global fall out. It has become a sad fact but economics is a driving force on decisions made by countries which choose to intervene in another nation's bad situation. However, in comparing Iraq and Darfur, if nations based their decisions on the basic tenet of helping those in need than those in Darfur would have been a top choice.
