Guide to biking and walking trails along American River, Northern California

Walking or hiking is a popular Northern California recreation. A major Northern California attraction is the walking trail along the American River.

On of the Northern California walking trails that takes the hiker from the American River Confluence to Lake Clementine is dominated by the wild river canyon. It begins at the confluence of the north and middle forks of the American River and extends along the cavernous canyon of the North Fork until it is interrupted by the Lake Clementine.

All along the trail one can encounter rampant rapids, murmuring pools, gurgling waterfalls and a serene lake. Mountain bikers also frequent this trail. Leashed dogs are allowed.

The Western Pioneer trail is a rugged terrain at Auburn, along the American River. Had the 1967 construction plans of the Auburn dam taken shape, this stretch of the gorges and canyons would have been converted into the Auburn Lake. However, since revival of the plan is not impossible, no proper roads have been constructed.

The challenging loop on the Pointed Rocks, Western States and Wendall T. Robie Trails provides unadulterated Northern California entertainment. This Northern California walking and biking trail covers a wide range of foothill panorama lavish oak savannas, chaparral and the rugged canyon of the American River.

The North Fork of the American River is one of the many secluded Northern California walking trials that runs through several boulder banks, rapids and pools before heading into the foothills. The scenery is dominated by the picturesque view of the river and the jagged rock outcrops referred to as the Pointed Rocks.

The Western States Trail in the Folsom Lake State Recreational Area that connects Folsom Lake with Auburn State Recreation Area is visited by millions of hikers and bikers. It is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and is a favoured Northern California entertainment zone.

The American River Parkway is a Northern California biking trail that provides priority to the bikers on the designated paths. The pedestrians are made to keep to one side. The vibrant fauna include numerous birds like the native Wood Duck, Acorn, Magpie, Phainopepla. Different exotic species flock to the area in the summer and winter months.

Coyotes howl and mountain lions lurk behind the boulders in the level but wild Western States Trail to Fords Bar. Several creeks meet the Middle Fork American River. A number or quiet pools and loud rapids are encountered. It is a part of the world-famous Western States 100-mile Run. Mountain bikers also use this trail.

Another major Northern California attraction is biking. The American River Bike Trail Ramble provides a thrilling slice of Northern California biking experience. It runs from Old Sacramento to Beal's Point on Folsum Lake. The terrain is flat.

Foresthill Classic road presents an exhilarating Northern California recreation a biking trail that straddles the Foresthill Divide in between the two great canyons of the American River. The trail is buried within the American Rubicon Gorge and includes a charming drop and an exigent ascent in the Sierra.
