Forget pills, gum, or patches; in my estimation the easiest and most effective way to quit smoking is to change your mindset about the noxious, deadly product that you are using. A person must open their eyes and their mind to see cigarettes for what they really are: toxic, wasteful, and harmful little things that have absolutely no redeemable qualities.
I was a smoker for almost twenty years before I finally woke up to the realization of what I was doing to myself.(Not so fun fact: 20 cigarettes x 365 days x 20 years x 15 drags per cigarette = 2,190,000 lungfuls of smoke!)
Many times before I'd tried to quit cold turkey, with little or no mental preparation, only to be pulled back within a matter of hours or days. It was so easy to go back. After all, I'd heard many times how addictive it was; harder to kick than heroin they say.
Any number of you reading this could have a smoke in your hand at this very moment. Look at it and ask yourself what it is about that cigarette that you find so appealing.
Maybe it's the stinky smoke curling from the end or exhaled from your lungs in a hot, acrid cloud that you like; or the way it stains your furniture and walls, making your clothes and surroundings reek like an ashtray. You might not notice it though, the inhaling and exhaling of tens or hundreds of thousands of lungs full of smoke may have deadened your sense of smell as well as taste.
It could be the cost that you like. After all, who needs better food or nicer things? A vacation maybe? Nah! We've all done the math in our head at some point and it's not getting any cheaper. What would you, the pack a day smoker, do with an extra $2000+ per year?
Maybe you just don't want to quit? You will someday, I'm pretty sure of that. Once you've been smoking for a number of years, you'll notice how your breathing is affected, how your stamina wanes, and how your overall health can decline. The glamor does indeed wear off.
Many people will say it's too hard, too much like giving up an old friend. Nicotine and the other four thousand or so chemicals you are inhaling are no friends of yours; they are your bitter enemies. What kind of friend poisons you?
Not only do your belongings and apparel smell, but your breath is no picnic either! After I'd quit and was able to smell again, I was a little embarrassed with myself for having gone in public and stinking so bad.
Look at the people you encounter every day. about 75-80% of them don't smoke! Now ask yourself if they look like they're missing
