Celebrity scents: Perfumes made popular by sweet-smelling stars

Andy Warhol once predicted that "in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes." Had he lived a little longer, he might have added "and bring out a perfume."

From Oscar-winning actresses to Big Brother losers, these days it seems that anyone who is anyone, or even just very nearly someone, has their own fragrance line.

And it's nothing to be sniffed at. According to market researcher NPD Group, celebrity scents are the fastest-growing sector of the $2.9 billion perfume market. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1 4289131/)

2007 saw the launch of over 30 new celebrity perfumes, a 2000% jump from 2004. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/bus iness/2007/aug/27/lifeandhealt h.fashion)

Here's the best of what the stars have to offer this year:

- Sarah Jessica Parker, Covet

3.4 oz. Eau de Parfum: $65
Also available in a body lotion and shower gel.

Parker's debut fragrance, Lovely, was the perfume on everyone's pulse points in 2005 and 2006. But, where Lovely was a soft and subtle floral scent, 2007's Covet is a darker, more sophisticated mix of chocolate, magnolia, musk and amber.
If Lovely is what you wear during the day, then Covet might well be your choice for the evening.

- Mariah Carey, M

3.3 oz. Eau de Parfum: $62.50
Also available in a body lotion.

T he novel combination of toasted marshmallows and Moroccan incense is the inspiration behind Mariah Carey's first fragrance, M.
As you would expect from the marshmallows, it's a sweet and sugary scent which, despite the presence of incense, amber and patchouli, is surprising light and easy to wear.

- Gwen Stefani, L

3.4 oz. Eau de Parfum: $70
Also available in a body lotion and shower gel.

As famous for her adventurous sense of style as her singing voice, Gwen Stefani now adds signature scent, L, to fashion line L.A.M.B.
A summer-fresh blend of musk, pear, peach, lily of the valley, orange blossom and sweetpea, L is a light and clean scent that's very wearable but disappointingly safe coming from the bold Stefani.

- Britney Spears, Believe

3.3 oz. Eau de Parfum: $58
Also available in a body souffl.

It's been a turbulent year for the fallen pop princess but, well-documented personal problems and a disastrous comeback performance at the VMAs notwithstanding, Spears's latest fragrance for Elizabeth Arden is expected to sell well.
Like Curious and Fantasy before it, it's a fun blend of fruity and floral notes and sweeter than chocolate - although we're
