Helping your kids writing a letter to Santa Claus

their words on a separate piece of paper for them to copy, write their words with pencil real lightly so they can trace them or let them write and help with words that they don't know yet.

It is important that the children can use their words and that spelling is not an issue. They are revealing their thoughts and that is a good thing. If they ask about spelling, tell them but otherwise let them spell the way they want. You can try to guide them to include a wish for somebody else, their own wish list, a note about their behavior and maybe even an expression of thanks. But don't force them to write anything. It takes years of practice to perfect the Santa letter, let them grow and give them space to improve each year.

Kids can be very creative when decorating but sometimes they need a little inspiration. Place different materials on the table and give them choices and ideas of what they could do. Once they start let their creativeness take over and take a back seat.

Once decorated place the letter in an envelope and address it. Placing a stamp on it will make it feel even more real to your children. Timing is everything in the next task. Have them complete the letter in the late afternoon. They can bring it out to the mailbox and place it inside. This gives you time to retrieve it after they go to bed.

Now for the grand finale. Write a letter from Santa to your sleeping kid. Be sure to use the same care and creativeness that your little artist used while writing and decorating. The letter should include gratitude for the received letter, acknowledgment of the wish list and a pointer to even better behavior. Address the letter to your child and add a stamp, place it in the mailbox and get some rest.

Most likely your little one will check the mail first thing in the morning. Some kids need a little reminder that there may be mail or that they should make sure their letter is still there. No amount of money in the world can be more precious than the amazement in a child's eyes when they pull out that letter from Santa. You will need to plan a little extra time to get ready for the day this morning as they are sure to want to share what Santa wrote with you.

The letter to Santa is one of the best gifts you can give your child year after year. Keep old traditions alive and give your young ones a feeling of heritage and belonging. The reason these traditions stay alive for so long is because they are all important in emotional growth.
