For some folks, the best part about the Superbowl is the ads! FOX sold out the commercial spots for Superbowl XLII, in October, 2007. The cost was a hefty $2,700,000. The Superbowl will be played in February at the University of Phoenix stadium in Arizona. Here's the scoop on Superbowl ads for 2008:
BRIDGESTONE: This tire manufacturer is scheduled to host the Halftime show for Superbowl XLII. This is fitting, since they are the official tire of the NFL! Rumor has it the Ryan Seacrest will be hosting the half-time show and that Bon Jovi will perform. Usually we see Ryan Seacrest standing on the red carpet at the Grammy's or the Oscars. It will be interesting to see what he brings to the NFL's biggest game.
GATORADE: Gatorade will be back in the Superbowl ad game, for the first time since 2003! Gatorade brand is coming out with a new version marketed towards us Yoga-practicers. The Gatorade will be a lighter formula, and will be called G2. Another line of Gatorade will be Gatorade Tiger, made for our favorite PGA golfer, Tiger Woods.
GODADDY.COM - This domain site announced in August, 2007, that they will not be participating in the commercial festivities for Superbowl XLII. Then, in November 2007, CEO Bob Parsens declared that there will be an ad running.
CARS.COM - This online car shopping site made an announcement in a October 2007 press release that they are jumping in the bowl with a Superbowl ad. They will launch their largest advertising campaign in the history of the domain.
PEPSI: Rumor has it that Pepsi is going to team up with Amazon to make a major play against Itunes. Only time will tell if Amazon will be able to capture some of Apple's share of download-only music sales.
CHEVROLET: They bought one 60-second spot for 2008. Their "robot suicide" ad in 2007 got a lot of criticism from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
FORD: Advertising reps for this automotive maker said they will likely run an ad in the pre-game show, but not during the actual game.
HONDA: They will not be participating because they won't have anything new at that time to announce.
SALESGENIE.COM: Word is on the street that this database provider has purchased two spots for the big game and will also be involved in the pre-game sponsorship. They had a lot of success after their 2007 Superbowl ad.
