The content of your pages should always be useful to viewers; that's what keeps them coming back. You've got to have good information and present it in an interesting way, or they may not visit again. Repeat business and word of mouth have always been the keys to success, so that's what you need to aim for.
By making sure you've got good, solid content and keywords, your chances for making money increase exponentially. When web crawlers search your pages and find these terms, they assign relevant ads - and that's how you cash in. Be creative! If you can find ways to branch out and reach a wider audience, do it.
*Lightly sprinkle really does mean lightly sprinkle. If you clutter your page up with so many search terms that it becomes ridiculous, the web crawlers will become confused and may even skip your page altogether. The goal of search engines is to provide clear, targeted results to direct users to exactly what they were looking for. When you have a nonsense landing page full of strange or conflicting keywords, it compromises the integrity of the search engines (which is precisely why they may ignore your site). Don't use the same term more than seven times on each page of your site - any more than that will be considered "spamming" keywords and lowers your chance of making money.
To find specific keywords that are relevant to your site and to see the average amount that Google charges it's advertisers, visit AdWords.Google.com. The higher the cost-per-click amount is, the more money you will make.
PROMOTE YOUR OWN SITE
There are several ways to promote your site. Your URL should appear on your business cards, brochures, and anywhere else you can draw attention to it. Additionally, it should appear at the bottom of every e-mail you send - even if it's a personal site.
The more people who link to your site, the better. If you've got a friend who doesn't mind adding a link to your site from their MySpace, Facebook, or personal site, take advantage of the opportunity! More traffic leads to more potential revenue for you, so links are important. You can also contact companies who may provide services that your viewers would be interested in and ask if they'll trade links with you. For example, if there's a mom-and-pop craft store in your town, ask if they'll put a link to your page on theirs and vice versa. Your children's crafts website will get more traffic, and they may do more business just because of your reciprocal link.
With a little planning, your site can become a huge earner on it's own. It doesn't take much to get started, especially if you've already got a site online. Someone else is out there making money from ads that could be on your site - so what are you waiting for? An hour or two of work now will pay off regularly in the future!
