Helping your kids writing a letter to Santa Claus

If your children are ready to write to Santa Claus and are in need of your help. You will find yourself with an opportunity to have some of the most teachable moments with your children.

Talk to the children a day or so ahead of the writing project. Encourage them to think of the special things they have been looking at in magazines, TV and in stores. In addition, have them choose what they would most like to have.

It might be a perfect time to tell them, that Santa will not be able to bring all the gifts they have chosen. And that they could probably count on some of what they have asked for.

Bring to your children's attention just how busy Santa must be at this time of year and encourage them to participate in the conversation. In time you will hear them say many things that make this * "historical, legendary, mythological creature" real to them thus perpetuating the spirit and fun of this holiday.

When you are ready, have each of your children sit down and write their letter to Santa. Dear Santa, is only the beginning, Encourage them to add their own personal thoughts to Santa. They will enjoy reading their individual letters to each other after they are completed.

Teach them to prioritize, by placing what they would like most at the top of their list. This will cause some serious internal dialog, that you may witness on their precious faces.

After they have completed the list of all their requests for things they would like to have. Encourage them to think of something special to say to Santa Claus. This will be a joyous revelation to you their mom or dad. Have them tell Santa about the cookies they will put out for him.

In their letter, they most likely will thank Santa, maybe advise him how to get down their chimney. They may even request that Santa bring something special to those they love. On the other hand, a request for something for the little boy who has a cast on his leg. Writing a letter to Santa now, has become so much more.
