I would say neither (I am so grateful that this isn't a debate topic).
Look, Jesus was never seen as much of a joiner. If he was he would have probably just joined the Roman army at a young age or maybe one of those Israeli Liberation organizations and would have been just some obscure guy that no one cared about.
But, No. Jesus was a rebel. He didn't like what the Romans were doing to his home country so he spoke out against them. He was against foreign powers muscling in on his people. You could say that today he would be anti-corporate.
He also believed in religion being taken out of the temples and out onto the streets. He liked talking to random people and just hanging out with his friends. He would probably huge on college campuses hanging out at the local student union knocking back espresso and listening to what the other folks had to say.
Jesus was also strong in his convictions. He would stand behind what he said and would never let a larger group of people tell him what to do. You won't find that kind of conviction in either party.
Naw, Jesus would be too cool for Republicans or Democrats. He'd be the kind of guy that would create a viable third party (for fun, he could call it "The Trinity Party"). He would preach against big government, encourage free speech and free thought, but tempered with reason. He'd let religion be a personal thing, but still try to encourage people to do the right thing. He'd probably have to be careful that his campaign manager was getting paid more than twenty pieces of silver, though.
I could just see the ads: "Jesus, he died for your sins - and your votes!"
