What to know about getting a makeover

Makeovers are always a risky business. Everyone ehas their own personal taste, and if you're not careful, you may receive a makeover from someone who gives you something that looks good on you, but that isn't you.

The idea of a makeover is to make you feel better about you. There's no point in getting your hair cut into a bob that suits your face shape perfectly if this youthful hairstyle doesn't suit you.

If you want a makeover, don't do it yourself. The whole point of a makeover is to make you try something different, but if you're doing it yourself, you won't force yourself out of your comfort zone. Ask friends and family for their opinions and advice if you admire a certain aspect of them, be it physical or emotional. Or, if you can afford it, hire a professional.

Keep in mind that when you have a makeover it can be both fleeting and permanent, physical and emotional. Changing your physical appearance will inevitably change the way that others see you, but their perception of you is unlikely to change completely unless you change the way you see yourself also.

For instance, if you had long, dull-colored hair, and changed it to being short and a vibrant red, this dramatic change will give you a chance to explore a side of you which you have never experienced before, and this physical change may also trigger an emotional one.

Another thing to remember when getting a makeover is that despite the fact that you are essentially changing who you are, you must still stay true to yourself - don't change because others want you to. Change because YOU want you to.
