Poetry: Emotional baggage

by varsity

The darkness filled my very soul.
The beast in him I could not control.

The abuse suffered at his hands.
Too afraid to take the biggest stand.

His control pushing me deeper inside.
Behind a wall created to hide.

Bound by a vow promised to keep.
freedom too far and pain too deep.

Sorrow running freely from his eyes to see.
Misery over wanting only to be free.

My children see the pain I bare,
protecting them is my only care.

I must save them at all costs.
No matter what, it'll come at a loss.

Beneath his gaze, I took a stand.
I walked out, taking my life back in my hands.

Now I'm free, I'm in control.
The scars I still carry deep in my soul.

My children now see my smile.
Giving to them, I go the extra mile.

I can no longer trust any man.
My heart hidden, this I must demand.

Now we are safe, our turn to shine.
To fulfill our lives to God's design.

I shall grow old and be alone,
with this heart made of stone.

I can accept this only to know,
that my children are safe from the physical blow.
